At Natalie Begg, we can’t get enough of It girl Alexandra E (@alexandra.e.style) and her fashionable stylings. If you follow her on Insta (along with the 135,000 other stylish mavens who are in the know!), you’re familiar with her regular outfit reels featuring her wearing labels like Manning Cartell, Scanlan Theodore, Camilla and Marc, and – of course – Natalie Begg, all available to buy on her LTK (like to know it) app. You might also have seen Alexandra featured in the latest Natalie Begg Château de Lace collection photoshoot. We love her effortless style, pairing easy separates for a polished, refined look in a way that is accessible.
We sat down with Alexandra to ask her a few questions about her personal style. Alexandra says she has a ‘mixture of styles’, which:
…varies on the day as to how I’m feeling. I love a lot of colour. I’m not in any one lane with my style. I love to accessorise with things and change things up a bit, but not too over the top. I don’t follow trends really, I just do what I like. I like to have a bit of a point of difference. I do very classic stuff, but in my everyday life, if I’m going out, I like to have something that looks like I’ve put some effort into it, but then looks like I haven’t made any effort at all, which is actually really difficult to do. It’s not just that I threw this on and it looks cool; it’s actually something you have to think about.
For anyone wanting to master the ability of effortless styling, Alexandra recommends, ‘sticking to a simple colour palette’.
Alexandra doesn’t think of herself as an influencer and feels she’s moved away from styling as her Instagram has grown. She now mainly focuses on content creation and digital marketing. When it comes to choosing labels and partnerships with labels, Alexandra goes with ‘what she likes and what her followers would like’. She tries to find something for everybody as well, given her followers encompass such a broad range of ages, styles, budgets and sizes – ‘and support Australian labels in particular. We have such great fashion here, and our designers are amazing.’
Alexandra first came across a Natalie Begg robe in local Melbourne retailer Kitty K and fell in love.
I just think the collection is really sophisticated, it’s timeless, it’s elegant. They’re pieces you can have in your wardrobe forever. They’re never going to date. I feel so feminine in them. They’re just really special pieces. And I don’t think anyone is doing what she does. It’s very individual.
When we asked Alexandra about what she sees as emerging trends in fashion, she notes she recommends that people:
…not be a slave to fashion, but it’s always nice to incorporate one little piece into your wardrobe every season. For instance, leopard print is huge, but if you don’t want to spend money on a coat, get yourself some shoes or a bag, something that is small because it’s going to date quickly. You don’t need to spend a lot. Burgundy is huge at the moment, and it’s one of my favourite colours, but that’s not going to date. I have some burgundy leather pants that I’ve had for a couple of years, so I’ll pull them out, but they’ll still be fine when that trend has gone.
Alexandra also believes in tailoring fashion to work for you.
I love sheer fabrics, like the sheer skirts. A lot of the runways have women in these sheer skirts with the underpants underneath, but who’s actually really going to go out wearing that?
We asked Alexandra about what she sees as one of the most iconic moments in fashion and she did not hesitate in naming Jennifer Lopez’s green Versace dress that she wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards. ‘That was one of the most iconic fashion moments ever. Everybody knows that dress; everyone knows that moment. It elevated her to stardom.’ If you’re looking re-create Jennifer’s iconic Grammy Awards moment, the Natalie Begg cowl-neck silk dress will give you a contemporary (slightly less bare all) take on that sensual look.
